For well over a decade, St. Alban’s friends have gathered for an inter-generation ice cream social in February. Following the second service, everyone selects half of a heart puzzle piece and then matches this piece with someone else’s. The two people make their sundaes together and then sit to talk and get to know one another. This is a wonderful way for the children of the congregation to get to know the adults in a warm and nonthreatening setting. It truly is the sweetest Sunday of the year!
Each year during Lent, the Sunday School gathers to roll, shape and bake pretzels. Remembering that monks first made pretzels in the shape of arms crossed in prayer as treats to be given to children who learned their prayers, the children always enjoy this Lenten treat. On the same day, the children complete a service project, packing bags of pretzels to be distributed to local nursing homes.
